The Matterhorn is located in Switzerland, 6 miles (10 km) southwest of the village of Zermatt. Zermatt is a car-free Alpine resort town at the foot of the Matterhorn, a famous pyramid-shaped mountain that straddles the border between Switzerland and Italy. The Matterhorn is 14,692 feet (4,478 meters) tall and is known as the "jewel of the Swiss Alps".
